In the fall of 2017 my family and I decided to sign up for a mission trip to Rock Point, Mexico with *1Mission. We felt the pull to step out of our comfort zone and do something different, something more, something to help and elevate our service to God. I remember thinking back then about all the impact WE would have, the life change WE would bring this family, and all the blessings WE could pour out to them.
What I did not expect was to be completely transformed from the inside out. What I did not expect was to personally encounter God on a deeper, more authentic level. What I did not expect was a radically changed heart and a completely new outlook of serving on the mission field. This past fall 2022 my family and I completed our 11th trip to 1Mission and it’s no longer about what WE can do, it’s about what God can do WITH us THROUGH us, to fulfill His will and His ultimate plan in sending His creation to reach the ends of the earth with His gospel.
Here is what we have learned on the mission field:
The best teams are made up of a bunch of nobodies, who love everybody, serve anybody and don’t care about becoming a somebody. Some of my best friends and lifelong relationships have been found and formed on the mission field, my kids have grown in their faith on the mission field, my marriage is stronger because of the mission field, and my heart has been changed for God’s people near and far.
